Tonight I was reading in Jacob 5 and the whole parable of the vineyard stuck out to me in a new really cool way. I noticed that throughout the whole thing, it’s explaining the plan of salvation. It starts out with he Lord of the vineyard doing all he can to help and putting everything he has into his vineyard. This is like Christ atoning for our sins. After, some of the trees grow good fruit but some still are bad. Some people refuse to use Christ’s gift of the atonement in their lives and so they don’t benefit from it.
Towards the end of the chapter, the Lord of the vineyard starts calling out to his servants and asking for their help. This is the part that I loved. In verses 62, 64, 71, 75, and 76 it the Lord of the vineyard says that this is the last time that he shall nourish his vineyard; for the end drawers nigh and the season speedily cometh. I was just amazed when I read these verses because it is completely predicting the gathering of Israel! In verse 71 it says, “Go to, and labor in the vineyard, with your might. For behold, this is the last time that I shall nourish my vineyard; for the end is nigh at hand, and the season speedily cometh; and if ye labor with your might with me ye shall have joy in the fruit which I shall lay up unto myself against the time which will soon come.” This is literally saying come and help me gather Israel because the second coming is almost here! This follows president Nelson’s challenge that he gave to the youth in June completely! We need to take action now! We need to be doing missionary work and spreading the gospel because the end IS almost here and we all need to be prepared!
In verse 75 it says, “And blessed art thou; for because ye have been diligent in laboring with me in my vineyard, and have kept my commandments, and have brought unto me again the natural fruit, that my vineyard is no more corrupted, and the bad is cast away, behold ye shall have joy with me because of the fruit of my vineyard.” I know that if we accept this challenge to gather Israel, we will be able to receive the blessings that follow and we will have joy with Christ. Act now and join the battalion!
